Full of mystery, betrayal, redemption and human complexity, The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M. White is a historical romance worth reading. As an author White skillfully creates authentically complex characters who draw us into a world of titles, power, and money in England’s early twentieth century. The characters of The Lost Heiress are an eclectic group of people who struggle to determine where to place their loyalties.
Brooke was raised in Morocco with the royal family and is accustomed to privilege and money. However, she feels lost because of her mother’s mysterious death and she longs to discover where she truly belongs. Justin, Brooke’s friend and heir to an English title, discovers that Brooke is heiress of Whitby Park and that her real father still lives. With Justin’s help Brooke returns to England and to her father, who openly accepts her despite the skepticism of his household.
Roseanna White creates a captivating story of intrigue and loss and of redemption and renewal. With unexpected plot twists throughout her novel White shows us a period of progress and change in titled England. While I appreciated the depth of White’s characters, I found the numerous characters somewhat difficult to keep track of as the story unfolds. Overall though, White’s well written, intense story is definitely worth reading. Bethany House gave me a complimentary copy of The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M. White for my candid review.
