Wings of the Wind is the first book I have read by Connilyn Cossette and I liked it. Tobiah, a Hebrew, discovers a solitary woman wounded on the battlefield. In an attempt to save her life Tobiah finds himself drawn to this woman despite her Canaanite heritage. Full of intrigue, emotions, and striking historical detail, Cossette creates a story that takes us into the Hebrew camp after they have wandered 40 years in the wilderness and are preparing to enter the land of Canaan.
As a reader of the Bible, I was impressed by Cossette’s attention to historical detail and her ability to use that detail to create an intriguing story that is full of life and historical authenticity. I loved her array of strong characters and how they bring to life all the different aspects of life and struggle in this time period. Exodus, the newly released volume 3 of The Moses Chronicles is another captivating story filled with stress, fear, and faith. I’ve really enjoyed reading this series and Exodus was as compelling as the previous two books in series. Author H. B. Moore does a stellar job bringing this Bible story to life in an intense, believable way.
I like how H. B. Moore created strong, vulnerable and authentic characters in this series. She captured well the emotional struggle that Moses must have felt as Pharaoh repeatedly gave his word that the Israelite slaves could leave and then changed his mind. I like how some of the plagues made everyone suffer, Hebrews as well as Egyptians and how that tested the faith of the Hebrews in their new prophet. I like how Moses’ Egyptian mother Bithiah is part of the story and how she brings an Egyptian perspective to everything that happens leading up to the Exodus.
Overall, Exodus is a compelling story that brings the story of Moses to a whole new, realistic level. Nicely done. Heather B. Moore gave me a complimentary copy of Exodus for my candid review.
This is the first adult coloring book that I have owned and I was skeptical I would enjoy trying to force myself to relax and spend time coloring. When I skimmed through the book, the beautiful layout and thoughtfully chosen verses of scripture touched me. As I colored and reflected on the scripture verse that correlated to the picture I worked on coloring, I found myself relaxing and feeling a quiet peace.
I love how the scriptures verses are taken from various Biblical translations. The different translations add variety and a depth of understanding to familiar scriptures and fresh perspectives to consider. Feinberg has chosen powerful scriptures verses to help us understand that God is always ready and anxious to calm our fears and to help us feel peace in our lives.
Live Fearless is a beautiful book to help us have a beautiful experience while we contemplate God’s words. Bethany House gave me a complimentary copy of Live Fearless by Margaret Feinberg for my candid review.
Deliverance, the newly released volume 2 of The Moses Chronicles is the enthralling sequel to volume 1 Bondage. In Deliverance, author H. B. Moore follows Moses into the wilderness as he runs from the Egyptians, fearful of being pursued after killing an Egyptian taskmaster for beating a Hebrew slave. With the knowledge of his birth newly revealed by his Egyptian mother, Moses runs into the wilderness to run away and at the same time to find out who he really is.
With a seemingly random string of fortunate events, Moses finds himself in Midian welcomed by Jethro’s large family. While working to ingratiate himself into this new tribe, Moses feels drawn to Zipporah, Jethro’s intriguing and still single daughter.
With creatively and authenticity, H. B. Moore recreates the story of how Moses found his wife and learned to trust the true and living God of the Hebrews. Amid touching everyday activities, and heart-stopping plot twists, we follow the story that prepared Moses to accept God’s call to return to Egypt to deliver the Hebrews from bondage.
Deliverance is the strong, captivating story that draws us into the everyday struggles of an ordinary man that God is preparing for extraordinary tasks. Heather B. Moore gave me a complimentary copy of The Moses Chronicles: Deliverance by H. B. Moore for my candid review.
The novel Risen tells the story of the resurrection of Jesus Christ or Yeshua from the perspective of a Roman soldier Clavius. Well written and poignant in its description of the events surrounding the Resurrection, author Angela Hunt creates a story of passion and fear much like it must have been for the true believers who witnessed Yeshua’s resurrection and surrounding events first hand.
A hardened soldier, Clavius finds himself drawn to a young Jewish widow Rachel. Clavius and Rachel both meet believers in the resurrected Lord and find themselves drawn to understand more about Yeshua and his small band of devoted followers. Rachel feels compelled to join with the believers as they teach her that the prophecies of Isaiah she believed as child have found fulfillment in Yeshua’s teachings, death, and resurrection. Clavius, on the other hand, is compelled to seek out the believers because of his direct command from the prefect Pilot to find the missing body to prevent political upheaval. Both Clavius and Rachel are authentic and approachable as they share their stories.
Riveting in its historical detail and poignant in its emotional portrayal of the varied people who witnessed Yeshua’s resurrection, Risen tells again in touching and vivid details the story surrounding the most profound event in the history of this world. Bethany House gave me a complimentary copy of Risen by Angela Hunt for my candid review.
